Our state now has a 50-50 chance to host an event close to the level of the Olympic Games. It’s down to the Triangle and a city in South Korea as the finalists to host the 2027 Summer World University Games.

The Durham Bulls Ball Park could be one of several venues in the state hosting competition on a worldwide scale. That’s where the international site selection delegation visited. “Durham Bulls Athletic Park is a show case for Durham and to have this group here today shows our commitment,” said Marcus Manning, executive director of Durham Sports Commission.

The visitors are now in the state to inspect sport venues and other amenities worthy of hosting the Summer World University Games in 2027. “The facilities and venues that we have here in North Carolina are 2nd to none,” said Dan Guerrero, President of the U.S. International University Sports Federation.

The question is will the winner be South Korea or North Carolina? Hill Carrow, CEO of the NC Bid Committee said, “Number one, this is the World University Games. I think anyone would agree, central North Carolina and this area are hotbeds of collegiate sports.”
