In this video, I go over Nextcloud installation and setup. This is great when using Linux for your business. It is also in my opinion, the best alternative when you don’t want to use a cloud service like Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive.
Here are all the commands used:
Install Ubuntu18 Server with Nextcloud and ssh
Set Timezone
dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
Check Trusted domains
$ sudo nextcloud.occ config:system:get trusted_domains
Add Trusted domains
$ sudo nextcloud.occ config:system:set trusted_domains 1 –value=example.com
Change firewall rules
$ sudo ufw allow 80,443/tcp
Do Let’s Encrypt certificate
$ sudo nextcloud.enable-https lets-encrypt
OR
Do Self-Signed certificate
$ sudo nextcloud.enable-https self-signed
Login and Finish setup

I do host it locally and use Zerotier one to access it to external computer with the help of Zerotier one (it's not that hard but still it need much complex work to be done)
Next step: how to correctly implement onlyoffice to it?
Darn it! Despite you excellent walk-through i still struggle to install it on a second hard drive!!! So frustrating when it's so simple!
Noob question…where do i get a domain name
I can't believe it!!!
Somebody who doesn't waste half the video installing the OS.
Thanks for treating me like I am intelligent, I'll be back to listen to more of what you have to say.
Just come across your channel and subscribed just what I was looking for. I got the next cloud running ok I can access it on my local network ok. I set up a domain name port forwarded my router and I can access it on my iPhone remotely ok if im away from my house. If im in the house and my phone picks up the wifi the app doesn't work unless I turn off the wifi on my phone. So in effect it connecting remotely. Can I make it work without turning off the wifi on my phone your help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
you mentioned using a freenas with nextcloud, Im confused as to how to do that. I like freenas and want to use it but I thought that freenas was its own os and you cant get stuff such as nexcloud and other server stuff on it. Is there a thing like freenas that has zfs triple redundency and all that, but on a server os like ubuntu. Or would you recomend having an nextcloud ubuntu server and a seperate freenas machine
I'd highly recommend Let's Encrypt if you don't understand certificates and want your setup to be accessible through the internet. Just get a domain name and the LE certificate is free.
Using self signed certificate is going to be much easier to get up and running, but unless you know how SSL certificate works and how to validate certificates and all its pitfalls, you're likely going to be setting it up insecurely. It's easier to get something reasonably secure when you use an LE certificate.
one thing i hate about 90% of these new installers…
they never have canada 🙁
so i have to do
ln -svf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Canada/Eastern /etc/localtime
timedatectl set-ntp true
after ever install.
Wow can't wait for more! mhwlawfirm.com always on your side.
Using snap for nextoud is ok if don't plan to run any other web server (sites/domains) on your machine. Unless you're comfortable dealing with reverse proxys etc, it can be a huge pain.
cool stuff very nice , thanks a bunch
Can you make a video installing newest Nextcloud on a FreeNAS server 11.2? I really like how you explain everything in depth, thank you.
Great!! Exactly what I am planning to do! One question. You mention to use FreeNAS for the actual data storage, right? This setup requires two machines right? Do you recon that this provides enough safety in terms of backups?
I use a docker compose to bring up my nextcloud server. If you want to check out my docker compose files, I have them on my github.

Yuck, it is better to install as a real package, not a SNAP. Snaps are easy but you lose lots of features doing that….
Nice video!!
I would also love to see how to use nextcloud with taedik under docker! (For the more advanced users) 😉
What KDE widget is that, which shows CPU and mem usage ?
Or use docker containers. There are some great github premade setups which are very easy to reconf and install. Like this for example: https://github.com/evertramos/docker-nextcloud-letsencrypt . — > This is probably "overkill" for many, but its very nice indeed.
Wait. Did you install nextcloud using a snap? Your video was confusing to me. Did you install Ubuntu server first?
I have installed nextcloud using their docker compose file, which was ridiculously easy 😉
Of course I did not set it up to be accessible from outside. What would be interesting to see (because I have constantly failed on it) an installation of nextcloud and LibreOffice Online.
I have my nextcloud installed on a Raspberry pi for my personal NAS and it's really great, i love nextcloud and the PI 😛
Before adding the next video about installing SSL certificate, what about making your own DNS without using third parties if possible which is I'm looking for…
